Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

A Courtier is proficient with Basic weapons. They do not gain proficiency with any type of armor or shield.

If not using weapon groups, a Courtier is proficient with simple weapons.

Style and Grace

The traditional training of the courier bestows impressive skills in grooming, bearing, and presentation as well as a vast knowledge of common topics and a sharp wit. You gain a +4 competence bonus on all Charismas-based skill checks for social interaction.

Systematic Training

At 1st-level, you gain a Skill Feat as a bonus feat. This feat must be one that grants a +2 bonus to a skill and makes it a class skill for all of your classes. The bonus granted by the chosen feat increases by an additional +2.

At 4th level and every three levels thereafter, you gain a Skill Feat of your choice. This may be any Skill Feat, but you must meet the prerequisites of the chosen feat. You do not gain any additional bonuses from these feats.

Wealth

Courtiers almost invariably come from wealthy families or powerful organizations. In addition to your normal starting wealth, you receive 50gp for each point of Charisma bonus you possess.

Courtier Ability

At 2nd level and every three levels thereafter, you gain a special ability of your choice from the list of Courtier Special Abilities. You must meet the prerequisites of the chosen ability, if any.

List of Courtier Special Abilities

Disciplined

At 3rd level, you gain Disciplined as a bonus feat. If you already possess this feat, the bonuses it grants instead increase by +1.

Gossip

Courtiers tend to hear a great deal of gossip and can often tell a thing or two about any semi-important person or event just from the accompanying rumors they have heard.

You may make an Insight (gather information) check upon meeting or hearing about any individual, place, item, or event that is in any way important to society. The GM makes this check secretly and reveals rumors you have heard about the subject.

Gossip is not always a reliable or accurate source of information, but it does tend to give relevant insight into public opinion. Gossip may or may not be truth, but it tends to be what people believe is the truth.

You may only use this ability once for any given subject, but you may still gather information as normal.

The Heart Speaks

Beginning at 12th level, your ability to read others has become so ingrained that it has become second nature. You may take 20 on Insight skill checks without increasing the necessary amount of time. You may not use this ability while threatened or distracted.

Immovable Hand of Peace

When you reach 18th level, if you are holding no visible weapons, have no harmful intent, and have no attack an opponent during an encounter, you may force any opponent seeking to harm you (whether through an attack, ability, or other option) to make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 your courtier level + your Charisma modifier). If the opponent fails this save, they cannot harm your for 1 round.

This is a mind-affecting ability.
