Counterfeit Mage

Charlatans and stage magicians use slight of hand to fake magic. A counterfeit mage goes a step further, parroting the motions and activation phrases used by arcane casters to activate wands or other magical accoutrements. While counterfeit mages rarely fool a real wizard, their command of the arcane is enough to convince most lay people.

Class Features

A Counterfeit Mage does not gain the Evasion class feature.

Magical Expertise

At 1st level, a counterfeit mage adds 1/2 his level to skill checks to find and disarm magical traps and to activate scrolls and wands. A counterfeit mage can use Engineering to disarm magic traps.

In addition, you gain the ability to cast prestidigitation at will as a spell-like ability using your rogue level as your caster level. This counts as the Minor Magic rogue talent the purpose of meeting prerequisites.

Skill Specialty

A countereit mage does not select a skill specialty at 1st level.

Spell Resistance

Beginning at 2nd level, you gain spell resistance equal to your class level + your Charisma modifier. This ability replaces Evasion. You may not choose the Improved Evasion rogue talent.

Rogue Talents

You gain access to the following rogue talents and may select them when you meet the prerequisites.

2nd-Level Rogue

Signature Wand (Ex)

At 4th level, you can spend 1 hour practicing with a wand to designate it as your signature wand. You can draw that wand as a free action and can activate it without having to succeed at a skill check. You can change your signature wand once per day

4th-Level Rogue

Obtain Familiar

This talent functions as normal, but you do not need to take Major Magic to meet the prerequisites. You can simply select it when you possess the minimum rogue level.

6th-Level Rogue

Extra Rogue Magic (Ex)

Select one spell-like ability you’ve learned through a rogue talent. You can use that spell-like ability two additional times per day. You can select this talent multiple times. If you select the same spell-like ability more than once, the benefits of this talent stack.

Rogue Metamagic (Ex)

When you select this talent, choose one Metamagic Feat. Once per day, you may apply the effects of the selected feat to one one spell-like ability you have learned through a rogue talent.

This talent may be selected multiple times. Each time it is selected, you may either choose another metamagic feat that can be used once per day or gain two additional daily uses of a metamagic feat you have already selected with this talent.
