By using this technique, the disciple’s fear-inspiring countenance alone may turn aside attacks before they occur.

You can initiate this counter in response to an enemy attacking you. Make an Intimidate check against the attacker’s attack roll; if the Intimidate check exceeds the attack roll then the attack is negated.
