The description of each veil is presented in a standard format. Each category of information is explained and defined below.
Name
The first line of every veil description gives the name by which the veil is generally known.
[Descriptor]
Appearing on the same line as the veil’s name, when applicable, is a descriptor that further categorizes the veil in some way. Some veils have more than one descriptor.
The most common descriptors are acid, air, chaotic, chthonic, cold, darkness, death, earth, electricity, evil, fear, fire, force, good, language-dependent, lawful, light, mind-affecting, ouranic, sonic, and water.
Most of these descriptors have no game effect by themselves, but they govern how the veil interacts with other veils, with special abilities, with unusual creatures, with alignment, and so on.
A language-dependent veil uses intelligible language as a medium for communication. If the target cannot understand or cannot hear what the veilweaver of a language-dependant veil says the veil fails to affect the target.
A mind-affecting veil works only against creatures with an Intelligence score of 1 or higher.
Chakra
This line indicates where a veilweaver can attach or bind a veil he weaves. A veil must be attached or bound to a chakra, and each chakra can only hold a single veil. Some veils list more than one chakra, giving the veilweaver a choice of where to attach or bind the veil.
Saving Throw
Often a harmful veil will allow a target to make a saving throw to avoid some or all of the effect. The Saving Throw entry in a veil description defines which type of saving throw the veil allows and describes how saving throws against the veil work. This functions exactly the same as Saving Throws for Spells, except for determining the save DC.
Saving Throw Difficulty Class
A saving throw against your veil has a DC of 10 + the amount of essence invested in the veil + your bonus for the relevant ability (Intelligence for a vizier, Charisma for a rajah, and so forth).
Descriptive Text
This portion of a veil description details what the veil does and how it works. If one of the previous entries in the description included “see text,” this is where the explanation is found.
Essence
At the end of the basic descriptive text is a section detailing the improvements or additional abilities granted by investing essence into the veil.
Chakra Bind
All veils can be bound to one or more chakras. This section is used to describe the improvements or additional abilities granted by binding the veil to that chakra. If a veil can be bound to more than one chakra, the veil will have a different chakra bind section for each available chakra.
Many chakra binds also have an essence effect, so the chakra bind will also have its own essence section as described above.
