When speaking of the Necrothil, it is not always clear to whom you refer. The elves of Necrothil are a distinct elven race and culture, but the Necrothil are also any who follow Necrothilish traditions or religion. There is no singular Necrothil nation, they are a people scattered across the realms who gladly welcome any who would embrace their ways.
The Necrothil possess a unique culture that centers around their reverence for death and decay, which they see as a natural part of the cycle of life. All living things die and decay, creating the foundation for new life to arise. In this transition between life and new life, the Necrothil seek wisdom and power.
The center of each Necrothil community is the Grimhall, which is usually constructed within or as near as possible to crypts, graveyards, or other places associated with death. They frequently become the caretakers and guardians of any place they settle, easily becoming custodians over the resting places of the dead in exchange for a home.
The Grimhall is considered a sacred place where the Necrothil commune with the spirits of the dead and learn from their wisdom, but it also serves at the meeting hall for the leading elders in the community and as a training ground for their martial artists. The training in Grimhalls involves rigorous physical training, mental discipline, and spiritual meditation, all of which are aimed at honing the Necrothil’s spiritual connection. Those who learn Necrothilish martial arts are known as the Disciples of Moros.
Necrothil martial artists are highly respected within their society, as they are considered to be the embodiment of the balance between life and death. They are often called upon to serve as protectors of their people, and the greatest among them most often serve as the ruling elder of the local community. This council of elders, called the Grimmoot, is usually composed of the most skilled and respected Necrothilish martial artists. Though they act as a governing body, their primary responsibility is spiritually guiding Necrothil society in maintaining their natural balance between life and death and new life.
