Devotee

A cleric who is fully committed to the worship of his deity and the spreading of his faith is known as a devotee. He gains additional powers when casting spells related to his deity while losing out on some of his normal spellcasting ability. Only clerics who worship a specific deity or belong to a religious organization that worships only one deity may become devotees.

Class Features

A devotee does not lose any cleric class features, but many of them are modified to function differently.

Alignment

A devotee’s alignment must match that his deity or religious organization. If his alignment ever strays, he loses access to his domains until he returns to the correct alignment and receives an atonement.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

A devotee takes a -2 penalty when wielding any weapon that isn’t his deity’s favored weapon.

Spellcasting

A devotee accesses, prepares, and casts spells as a standard cleric; however, a devotee does not gain any domain slots. In addition, the devotee subtracts one non-domain spell accessed from each spell level on Table: Cleric Spells Accessed, reducing the number of normal cleric spells he can access.

Spontaneous Casting

A devotee can spontaneously convert a prepared cleric spell to cast cure or inflict spells as normal. A devotee may also spontaneously covert a prepared cleric spell to cast one of his domain’s spells of the same level or lower.

Domains

At 9th level, a devotee gains access to a third domain offered by his deity or religious organization. He immediately gains the granted ability and can spontaneously convert prepared cleric spells into spells from this domain.

He gains access to a 4th domain at level 18.
