A zealous hunter cares less about fighting against the generic concept of evil than he does fighting specific, tangible threats. By giving up some of his powers, he gains greater benefits against known servants of evil.
Class Features
A Zealous Hunter does not gain the Smite Evil class feature.
Favored Enemy
You gain favored enemy, as the Ranger ability, including the ability to select additional favored enemies and increase the bonus at higher levels. A good paladin may choose from aberrations, dragons, giants, monstrous humanoids, evil outsiders, or undead. An evil paladin may choose from dragons, giants, humanoids, monstrous humanoids, or good outsiders.
When making an attack against for favored enemy, you may spend a point of zeal to gain a bonus on the attack roll equal to your favored enemy bonus.
This ability replaces Smite Evil.
