Class Features

An Abhyasi does not gain the Martial Arts, Stances Known, House of Servants, and Regality class features.

Arcane Spellcasting

An abhyasi casts arcane spells which are drawn from the magus spell list. An abhyasi must choose and prepare his spells ahead of time.

To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, the abhyasi must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against an abhyasi’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the abhyasi’s Intelligence modifier.

Like other spellcasters, an abhyasi can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: The Abhyasi. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Intelligence score.

An abhyasi may know any number of spells. To prepare spells, he must benefit from a Long Rest and spend 1 hour studying his spellbook. While studying, the abhyasi decides which spells to prepare.

This replaces the Martial Arts ability.

Spellbooks

An abhyasi must study his spellbook each day to prepare his spells. He cannot prepare any spell not recorded in his spellbook, except for read magic, which all abhyasi can prepare from memory.

An abhyasi begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level magus spells plus three 1st-level spells of his choice. For each point of Intelligence bonus the abhyasi has, the spellbook holds one additional 1st-level spell of his choice. At each new abhyasi level, he gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that he can cast (based on his new abhyasi level) for his spellbook. At any time, an abhyasi can also add spells found in other abhyasi’s spellbooks to his own.

An abhyasi can also learn spells from a wizard’s or magus’ spellbook. The spells learned must be on the magus spell list. A wizard or magus can also learn spells from an abhyasi’s spellbook, so long as the spells are on their spell list.

Veilweaving

An abhyasi’s veilweaving modifier is Intelligence. This otherwise functions as the standard rajah class feature.

Royal Mandate

An abhyasi does not recover maneuvers when using this ability. This otherwise functions as the standard rajah class feature.

Vassalage

An abhyasi loses the ability to initiate martial techniques through his vassals. Instead, he gains the ability to cast abhyasi spells through his vassals as though he occupied that vassal’s space.

For the purposes of targeting and area of effects, the vassal is treated as the caster. So, for example, a spell that deals damage in an area around the caster but deals no damage to the caster would deal no damage to the vassal.

If an abhyasi casts a touch spell that grants multiple charges, such as chill touch, on following rounds he can spend a standard action to make a touch attack using one of those charges through one of his vassals.

Personal range spells cannot be cast using vassalage.

Crossroads

With their staff held aloft, the abhyasi commands dominion over the battlefield. At 1st level, he chooses one of the following staves, granting him unique benefits when casting his arcane spells. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed.

Staff of the Sky Sovereign

When making an attack with a spell cast through his arcane vassalage class feature, the abhyasi may use his Intelligence in place of his Strength or Dexterity modifiers on his attack rolls. Spells cast by the abhyasi through his vassalage class feature deal an additional 1 point of damage per damage die of the spell. This damage is of the same type as the spell.

Staff of the Sun King

When the abhyasi casts a spell that target’s an enemy, that enemy erupts with purifying akashic flame. The abhysai’s enemies within 10 feet of the targeted enemy must succeed at a Reflex save or take 1d6 points of damage per odd-numbered class level. This does not affect the initial target of the spell. The DC of this saving throw is equal to 10 + 1/2 the abhyasi’s class level + his casting modifier. This damage comes from an akashic pulse of power, and as such is not reduced by damage reduction, hardness, resistances, or immunities. If the abhyasi targets multiple enemies with a single spell, he chooses only one of them to be affected by this ability.

Staff of the Moon Queen

Whenever the abhyasi casts a spell through one of his vassals, a blend of akasha and arcana infuses that creature and wards them from harm. Until the end of the abhyasi’s next turn, that vassal gains a +2 shield bonus to AC. This bonus stacks with any existing shield bonus to AC. This is a force effect that applies against incorporeal attacks. This shield bonus increases by an additional +1 at 3rd level and every 3 levels thereafter.

This ability modifies the Crossroads class feature.

Akashic Strike

At 2nd level, whenever the abhyasi casts a spell that can be delivered by a melee or ranged touch attack through one of his vassals using his vassalage ability, he can choose to allow that vassal to deliver the spell with a weapon attack. Instead of the normal attack allowed by the abhyasi as a free action, he instead grants that ally the ability to make a single attack with one of weapon they wield as a free action (even if it isn’t their turn).

If the spell is delivered with a melee touch attack, the attack must be made with a melee weapon. If the spell is delivered using a ranged touch attack, the attack must be made with a ranged weapon. If the attack hits a creature, it deals its normal weapon damage as well as the effects of the spell. This attack uses the weapon’s critical range (20, 19–20, or 18–20 and modified by the keen weapon property or similar effects), but the spell effect only deals x2 damage on a successful critical hit, while the weapon damage uses its own critical modifier.

Spells that grant multiple attacks, such as scorching ray, can only have one of their attacks delivered by a weapon using this ability, the abhyasi makes any additional attacks normally through that entitled ally. If he casts a spell that grants multiple charges of melee or ranged touch spells, such as chill touch, on following rounds he can spend a standard action to allow his ally to make a weapon attack to deliver a charge.

Prepotency

At 10th level, the abhyasi has become a master of his magical arts, fortifying his mind and spirit with magical rituals and mnemonics. He gains immunity to fear effects, and the essence capacity of all his veils and class feature essence receptacles increases by one. (This does not affect akashic items, or other non-listed receptacles.)

The abhyasi may invest essence in this ability. He gains an insight bonus on attack rolls with his abhyasi spells and spell-like abilities equal to the essence invested. For every odd point of essence invested, the saving throw DCs of his abhyasi spells and spell-like abilities increase by 1. This does not apply to spells or spell-like abilities granted by any other class, feat, or other source.

This replaces the Regality class feature.
