Vizier

It’s said that the phrase “the power behind the throne” originates with the first vizier. Trained in ancient colleges in some of the oldest cities in existence, viziers are schooled in the courtly arts and entrusted with the secrets of veilweaving that they can advise and protect their rulers.

Many viziers have their training paid for by a noble or wealthy merchant who sees the value in a gifted individual, trusting that their investment will be returned tenfold when they have the services of a trained vizier at their call. While most vizier live to serve, some may find that they have no worthy master to lend their skills to, and still others will seek to test and expand their skills in the wider world. Whatever their cause for following the path of adventure, it is a fool indeed who does not see the value in the advice and power of a trained vizier.

Role

The vizier is a canny adventurer whose understanding of the energy that flows through all things combines with a fierce intellect and drive to excel. The true power of the vizier is seen when he uses his mastery of the mysterious force known as akasha and empowers it with his own essence. A vizier’s greatest strength is his flexibility to adapt to nearly any situation.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

A Vizier is proficient with Basic weapons plus any one other weapon group of your choice. They are proficient with light armor and with the dastana.

If not using weapon groups, a Vizier is proficient with simple weapons.

Veilweaving

Your primary ability as a vizier is to weave the magic of akasha into temporary constructs known as veils.

Your veilweaving modifier is Intelligence. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against your veils is 10 + the number of essence invested in the veil + your veilweaving modifier. Your veilweaver level is equal to your class level.

You can weave only a limited number of veils at one time, as given on Table: The Vizier. You know and can weave all veils on the vizier veil list. You must benefit from a Long Rest and spend one hour in meditation in order to weave your veils for the day.

In addition, at 1st level, you gain access to your personal essence pool, granting you energy to invest into your veils and other essence receptacles. The amount of essence you gain is indicated on Table: The Vizier.  You can allocate essence investments every round as a swift action. Your total Hit Dice determines your essence capacity, which is the maximum essence you can invest into any one receptacle.

Minor Veils

As a vizier, you learn to weave small fragments of power into minor veils which are significantly weaker in power than other veils but are quite flexible and provide additional utility. Minor veils, which are equivalent to arcane cantrips, do not occupy or block any chakra slot, but they also cannot be bound to a chakra. Each minor veil you weave only counts as half of a veil when determining the maximum number of veils have can weave at one time. In all other regards, a minor veil functions as any other veil and follow the normal rules for veils.

Ring Chakra

The vizier gains access to a unique veil slot: the Ring slot. You can weave veils to your ring chakra in the same way you can weave other veils to their respective chakras.

Eldritch Insight

Although not a traditional spellcaster, a vizier’s intense study of magic results in a unique insight into the flow of akasha energy many spellcasters unknowingly use to cast spells. Your levels in vizier count as arcane spellcaster levels for the purposes of qualifying for feats and abilities and for other caster level based abilities, such as determining your caster level when using a stave.

In addition, when you weave your veils for the day, you can bind some of your essence into any spell trigger item that normally uses charges (wand, staff, etc.) as if the item were a veil, allowing it to benefit from your improved essence capacity. The item gains a number of temporary charges equal to the amount of bound essence. These temporary charges function the same as normal charges, except that they are always used up first and dissipate if not used within 24 hours. These temporary charges cannot be used to trigger spells of 8th level or higher, but they may be used to trigger any other abilities of the item.

You can activate any spell trigger item into which you have bound essence as though you successfully have made any necessary skill checks.

Mystic Attunement

At 1st level, you can begin to manipulate the essence not just within yourself, but within the objects or creatures around you. When you first gain this ability, you must choose one of the paths of mystic attunement to follow.

Chakra Binds

At 2nd level and every 2 levels thereafter, you unlock chakra binds in the following order: Hands, Feet, Head, Wrist, Shoulders, Headband, Neck, Belt, Chest, and Body. Once you have unlocked a chakra bind, you may choose to bind a veil to that chakra when weaving it to unlock its corresponding bind abilities.

Improved Essence Capacity

You are particularly talented at investing essence. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the essence capacity of all your essence receptacles increases by one. In addition, the DC for any of your veil abilities increases by +1 each time you gains this ability.

Veilshifting

As your ability to control the flow of magical essence throughout your body and equipment grows, you gain the ability to weave a small number of veils instantly. At 3rd level, you may use a move action which provokes attacks of opportunity once per day to unravel one of your existing veils and instantly weave the released energy into a new vizier veil of your choice. The veil that you weave using this ability cannot be bound to a chakra, even if the unraveled veil was bound; however, you can spend 1 hour in meditation to bind any of your newly woven veils to their chakra.

You can use this ability one additional time per day for every four levels beyond 3rd. Each time you gain an additional use of this ability, the number of veils you can weave with a single use also increases by one. For example, at 11th level, you can use this ability three time per day and can unravel and weave up to three veils with each use.

Ring Binding

At 7th level you gain the ability to bind veils woven in the Ring slot.

Twinveil Rings

At 13th level you can weave and bind up to two veils which occupy the Ring slot.

Akashic Rebirth

At 20th level, you can completely change your veils with but a thought, reforging yourself into a vessel better able to navigate the trial before you. You can use your veilshifting ability at will without it counting against your daily limit, and you can unravel and weave any number of your vizier veils and immediately bind them to a chakra as part of this process.

Whenever you use your veilshifting ability, you gain temporary essence equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier. This temporary essence lasts for 3 rounds and can only be invested into your vizier veils.

Vizier Archetypes

You may choose to use one or more of these archetypes to modify the class features of this class. You may not choose more than one archetype unless they replace or modifiy different class features. See the section on Class Archetypes for full rules.
