Immortal Cultivator

Some cultivators practice the art of “internal alchemy,” a technique that refines essence gathered from the world around them and their own ki into a powerful spiritual source. By refining their inner being, cultivators strive towards immortality in a process that perfects their spiritual and physical forms.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

An Immortal Cultivator gains no proficiency with any type of weapon, armor, or shield.

Ki Cultivation

At each level, you progress a ki cultivation class you already possess. If you possess more than one cultivator class, you must decide to which class you add each new level of progression.

Ki Condensation

By harnessing the flow of akashic energies, you are able to condense the power of the universe into a useful form. You gain 1 point of essence at each level.

In addition, you gain access to a unique akashic receptacle: the Dantian. This unique chakra located behind the navel cannot have veils woven or bound to it; however, you can invest essence into it as if it were a veil.

If you have possess a veilweaver level, each level of this class increases your veilweaver level by 1. This does not progress any other veilweaving ability. Although they share many similar akashic abilities, an immortal cultivator is not a veilweaver.

Unarmed Strike

You gain Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat. Your unarmed strike deals damage as a monk of your immortal cultivator level. If you possess levels of monk, your immortal cultivator level stacks with your monk level for determining your unarmed strike damage.

Internalize Essence

Beginning at 2nd level, you learn to channel essence into your meridians, the vessels through which your internal ki flows, converting that essence into ki. As a swift action, you can take 1 point of essence burn, which cannot be reduced or prevented, to immediately gain a number of ki points equal to one-half your class level.

Foundation Establishment

At 2nd level, you establish the foundation for your future cultivation. You must choose either the Way of Harmony or the Way of Dominion. Each path grants access to a set of akashic ki abilities, but the other path is forever barred to you.

The Way of Harmony taps into the akasha of creation which flows down from the upper planes, empowering you with abundant life energy. The Way of Dominion draws strength from the all-consuming void of the netherworld that seeks to end all life, granting you the power of destruction.

Depending on which path you take, you gain access to either the Harmonic Strike or the Cursing Strike ki strike.

Akashic Circulation

Circulating akashic essence through your meridians grants you access to one of two specialized ki stances, depending on your chosen path. You gain either Harmonic Stance or Void stance.

Ki Talent

At 3rd level and every 3 levels thereafter, you can select one ki talent. Once a ki talent is selected, it cannot be changed. Unless otherwise noted, you cannot select an individual ki talent more than once. As a cultivator with access to akashic essence, you may also select ki talents from the list of akashic ki talents.

List of Ki Talents

Spirit-Healing Prana

By breathing in the akashic energies which flow through the world, you are able to heal and restore your internal energies. As a standard action, you may enter a meditative state characterized by deep, powerful breaths. While you maintain this meditation, you heal 1 point of essence burn at the start of each of your turns.

You may take no actions while meditating in this way, and any actions you take (even purely mental actions) disrupts your meditation. You are not flat-footed and remain fully aware of your surroundings, but you do not threaten any spaces and may no make attacks of opportunity while meditating.

Core Formation

When you reach 5th level, you achieve a significant breakthrough, shattering mortal limits and ascending to the next stage of being. Through rigorous meditation and focus, you compress the essence stored in your dantian until it transforms, crystalizing into a permanent structure called your Core.

When you gain this ability, you may permanently sacrifice any amount of essence that you possess. This is a permanent reduction in your essence pool, not damage or drain that can be healed or restored. This essence isn’t lost, rather it is transformed into a new state of existence.

For each point of essence permanently sacrificed in this way, you gain a +1 bonus to your maximum ki pool (both in and out of combat), the number of ki points gained at the start of combat, and the number of ki points gained when making concentration checks to gain ki.

The amount of essence sacrificed must be determined when this ability is gained and may not be changed later. Once formed, your core is solid and immutable.

In addition, your core increases the essence capacity of your dantian by 1.

Healing Akasha

At 7th level, you gain Healing Akasha as a bonus feat, even if you don’t meet the prerequisites. If you already possess this feat, you instead treat the bound essence as being two points higher for determining how much healing you gain from this feat each day.

Nascent Soul

Upon reaching 8th level, your ki takes on a life of its own, coalescing into a form called your Nascent Soul. This nascent soul appears as a miniature version of yourself deep within your core. This metaphysical representation of your very soul usually spends its time in deep meditation as it works to further refine your body and spirit.

The nature of your nascent soul grants you immunity to possession, as your soul is able to, almost literally, fight off attempts to possess you. When targeted by any effect which affects your soul directly in some way (such as a soul bind spell), you may roll the save twice and take the better result.

In addition, your nascent soul takes over much of the work of controlling your ki flow. You are able to remain centered regardless of the equipment you use or the weight you carry. (You still become uncentered if you are disabled, dying, helpless, or unconscious.)

Immortal Ascension

Upon attaining 10th level, you no longer take penalties to your ability scores for aging and cannot be magically aged. Any such penalties that you have already taken, however, remain in place. Bonuses still accrue as you age. In addition, you have no maximum age and cannot die of old age.

With a perfected, immortal body, you no longer need to eat, drink, or sleep, though you may choose to do so if you choose. You are immune to exhaustion and do not suffer penalties from hunger or thirst.

Undying Soul

When you reach 10th level, should your body be killed by any means, you live on as your nascent soul. You leave your body, becoming an incorporeal spirit. Your spirit form appears with full hit points and is healed of any ability damage, drain, or burn, poisons, diseases, curses, or other afflictions, and all penalties and status effects. Any ongoing spells and effects are dispelled as if their duration expired. Your creature type does not change, but you do gain the spirit subtype.

As a spirit, you retain all abilities you possessed in life and are equipped with spiritual versions of any non-consumable equipment you possessed in life (such as armor and weapons but not potions or scrolls). However, you are incorporeal and invisible, unable to interact with corporeal creatures. You may be affected by anything that affects with an incorporeal creature, but you must manifest to interact with the physical world.

As a move action, you may temporarily manifest into a physical form. When so manifested, you lose the incorporeal ability and are treated as a normal, physical being for all purposes. You may return to your incorporeal form as a move action. At the end of each turn that you were manifested, you take 1 point of essence burn, which cannot be reduced or prevented. If you run out of essence, you immediately return to your incorporeal state.

You may be resurrected through normal means, using any spell or effect that raises the dead. In addition, you may spend one hour in quiet meditation to create a new body around your nascent soul and return to life (as if you had cast resurrection on yourself). You must use precious gems worth 10,000gp as a material component in this process and return to life with one permanent negative level.

If you are killed while in your spirit form, you die as normal.

Immortal Cultivator Foundations

The Way of Harmony

Harmonic Strike [Akasha, Ouranic]

By spending 1 ki, you infuse a creature you touch with the harmonious energy of creation. (You need not make an attack roll against a willing creature.) Until the start of your next turn, any effect which heals the creature heals an additional number of hit points equal to your cultivation modifier. Multiple uses of this ability do not stack.

If the targeted creature is undead or otherwise harmed by positive energy, this ability instead deals additional damage when the target is harmed by an effect that normally grants healing to living creatures.

Adept Harmonic Strike

By spending 2 ki, the target is immediately healed (or damaged) for a number of hit points equal to your cultivation modifier before the additional healing effect described above is applied to them.

Master Harmonic Strike

By spending 3 ki, the target is immediately healed (or damaged) for a number of hit points equal to twice your cultivation modifier before the additional healing effect described above is applied to them.

Grandmaster Harmonic Strike

By spending 4 ki, the target is immediately healed (or damaged) for a number of hit points equal to three times your cultivation modifier before the additional healing effect described above is applied to them.

Harmonic Stance [Akasha, Ouranic]

By channeling the celestial powers of creation from the heavens above, you empower your body with potent life energies.

Your unarmed strike gains a +1 sacred bonus to attack and damage for every 2 points of essence invested into your dantian.

Adept Harmonic Stance

While outside with a view of the sky, you gain 1 ki point at the start of your turn each round.

Master Harmonic Stance

The sacred bonus granted by this stance increases by +1, regardless of the amount of essence invested.

Grandmaster Harmonic Stance

While outside with a view of the sky, you now gain 2 ki points at the start of your turn each round.

The Way of Dominion

Cursing Strike [Akasha, Chthonic, Curse]

By spending 1 ki, you infuse a creature you touch with the destructive energy of the void. Until the start of your next turn, any magical healing granted to the target is reduced by half.

This ability has no effect on healing provided by negative energy, such as when healing the undead.

Adept Cursing Strike

By spending 2 ki, a surge of negative energy afflicts the target, immediately damaging (or healing) them for a number of hit points equal to your cultivation modifier and applying the curse described above.

Master Cursing Strike

By spending 3 ki, a surge of negative energy afflicts the target, immediately damaging (or healing) for a number of hit points equal to twice your cultivation modifier and applying the curse described above.

Grandmaster Cursing Strike

By spending 4 ki, a surge of negative energy afflicts the target, immediately damaging (or healing) for a number of hit points equal to three times your cultivation modifier and applying the curse described above.

Void Stance [Akasha, Chthonic]

By channeling the primordial powers of entropy from the lower realms, you empower your body with potent destructive energies.

Your unarmed strike gains a +1 profane bonus to attack and damage for every 2 points of essence invested into your dantian.

Adept Void Stance

While underground, you gain 1 ki point at the start of your turn each round.

Master Void Stance

The profane bonus granted by this stance increases by +1, regardless of the amount of essence invested.

Grandmaster Void Stance

While underground, you now gain 2 ki points at the start of your turn each round.
