Ancestor Traits

Your character may inherit traits from their distant ancestors, giving them quirks of biology not quite normal for their race. These quirks are represented by the ancestor traits.

The Ancestor Traits

  • Adopted

You were adopted and raised by someone not of your race, and raised in a society not your own.

Benefit: As a result, you picked up a race trait from your adoptive parents and society, and may immediately select a race trait from your adoptive parents’ race.

  • Air-Touched

You share an affinity with elemental air.

Benefit: You gain DR 1/— against creatures and attacks with the air type. This is a trait bonus to damage reduction.

  • Awakened Bloodline

Your ancestral bloodline immediately awakens when your body is strong enough to support it.

Benefit: You immediately gain 200 experience points, which is enough to purchase your 1st bloodline level and half of your 2nd bloodline level. This experience can only be spent to gain bloodline levels and cannot be used for any other purpose.

  • Blood of Dragons

Long ago, your ancestors’ blood mixed with that of dragons.

Benefit: Choose one of the following: gain a +1 trait bonus on Perception checks, gain low-light vision, or gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against effects that cause sleep or paralysis.

  • Deathtouched

At some point you were tainted with the corruption of the undead, and you have gained some of their defenses.

Benefit: You gain either a +1 trait bonus on Fortitude saving throws or a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against mind-affecting effects (your choice).

  • Earth-Touched

You share an affinity with elemental earth.

Benefit: You gain DR 1/— against creatures and attacks with the earth type. This is a trait bonus to damage reduction.

  • Fiendish Taint

The blood of fiends taints your line, manifesting physically, though it may be barely noticeable.

Benefit: Choose one of the following skills: Deception or Intimidate. You gain a +1 trait bonus on checks with that skill, and it is always a class skill for you.

  • Flame-Touched

You share an affinity with elemental fire.

Benefit: You gain DR 1/— against creatures and attacks with the fire type. This is a trait bonus to damage reduction.

  • Imposing Scion

The reputation of your bloodline grants you a degree of fearful respect.

Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Intimidate checks. Your trait bonus increases to +2 when interacting with creatures of the same type as your ancestral bloodline.

  • Invested Heritage

You have spent time and effort in discovering the secrets of your heritage, unlocking greater powers.

Benefit: Choose one category of Heritage Feat when you gain this trait (such as Draconic Feats or Fey Feats). This trait counts as a feat of the chosen type for the purposes of determining the benefits of those feats.

  • Kin Bond

The bond between you and a close sibling is nearly mystical.

Benefit: Choose a single sibling with whom to share this bond. Once per day when you fail a saving throw while your sibling is within 30 feet, you may reroll that saving throw using your sibling’s saving throw modifier. If you and the sibling are twins or otherwise part of a multiple birth, you gain a +2 trait bonus on the rerolled saving throw. Your sibling must be willing to grant you the reroll. If you fail the saving throw, you and your sibling are dazed for 1 round.

  • Minor Mutations

Whether through a minor curse, exposure to arcane pollution, or a quirk of genetics you were born with or later developed visible mutations.

Benefit: You gain the mutant subtype. Roll d% when you gain this trait. You gain a cosmetic mutation based on your roll. In addition, the first time you gain Mutation Points, this trait grants you 1 additional MP. (This trait does not grant any MP until you first gain them from another source.)

  • Nightsighted

Your eyes are particularly well suited to using darkvision, but they are less well adapted to what others consider normal light.

    Prerequisite: Must already possess darkvision.

Benefit: Add 20 feet to the range of your darkvision. You gain light sensitivity, becoming dazzled in areas of bright light.

  • Potent Bloodline

Your ancestral bloodline is particularly strong.

Benefit: Your Hit Dice are considered 2 higher when determining how many bloodline levels you may possess. This trait has no effect on a major bloodline and cannot increase your effective Hit Dice beyond 20.

  • Storm-Touched

You share an affinity with elemental lightning.

Benefit: You gain DR 1/— against creatures and attacks with the electricity type. This is a trait bonus to damage reduction.

  • Water-Touched

You share an affinity with elemental water.

Benefit: You gain DR 1/— against creatures and attacks with the water type. This is a trait bonus to damage reduction.
