Duergar

Open Game Content

Also known as Mindfire Dwarves or Gray Dwarves, the duergar tend to live deep underground and avoid most other races when possible. Most duergar are hairless (even the females), and they dress in drab clothing that is designed to blend into stone. In their lairs they may wear jewelry, but it is always kept dull.

+2 Constitution, -2 Charisma
Duergar are known for their toughness and stamina, but they are standoffish and sometime cruel.
Small Humanoid (Dwarf, Psionic)
Duergar are dwarves with the psionic subtype.
Movement Speed
A Duergar's base land speed is 20 ft.
Senses
Superior Darkvision
Duergar can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and duergar can function just fine with no light at all.
Light Sensitivity
Duergar are dazzled in bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell.
Powerful Build
Whenever a duergar is subject to a size modifier for an opposed check, the duergar is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. He is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature's special attacks based on size can affect him. A duergar can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of abilities, powers, and spells that change the subject's size category.
Hardy (Ex)
Duergar gain a +2 racial bonus on all saves against poison and all esoteric abilities.
Inexorable (Ex)
A duergar's speed is never reduced by armor or encumbrance.
Stability (Ex)
As long as a duergar is standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground), he gains a +4 racial bonus on Combat Maneuver Defense to resist being being moved, tripped, or knocked down.
Stonecunning (Ex)
Duergar gain a +2 racial bonus on all Perception and Profession checks related to stone or metal. Additionally, a duergar who passes within 10 feet of unusual stonework, such as traps and hidden doors located in stone walls or floors, receives a Perception check to notice the feature whether or not he is actively looking.
Naturally Psionic
A duergar gains 3 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class.
Expansion (Ps)
A duergar may use expansion as a psi-like ability 1/day. The manifester level for this ability is equal to 1/2 his Hit Dice (minimum 1). A duergar who gains the ability to manifest 1st-level powers gains expansion as a bonus power known and can manifest it as normal for his class.
Languages
Automatic: Underspeech and Dagr’rune. Bonus: Common, Goblin, Infernal, Khaakaan, and Terran.
Preferred Classes
Duergar tend to prefer taking levels in Psychic Warrior, Samurai, or Aegis.
