Rhai’Selog

The Rhai’Selog, or “Faithful Ones,” were created in the distant past through long forgotten and intentionally destroyed rituals. When their patron deity was slain by a rival, the first Rhai’Selog transformed themselves using their god’s lifeblood, gaining the power they needed to enact vengeance. However, their hope was also their curse, as their descendants became forever dependent on divine energy just to live.

Physically, most Rhai’Selog are indistinguishable from humans, though they often tend to be free of the common physical flaws of mere humans, as they carry a trace of the perfection and grace of divinity.

Faithful

Rhai’Selog gain a Faith feat as a bonus feat at 1st level, even if they do not meet the prerequisites. They gain the 5 Faith Points granted by the feat as normal but can only gain additional Faith Points through their racial abilities.

A cleric or other divine caster who worships a deity can sacrifice a prepared divine spell or divine spell slot and allow a Rhai’Selog to absorb it, allowing the recipient to gain 1 Faith Point per level of the spell sacrificed. A Rhai’Selog can only absorb Faith Points with this ability once per day and can hold a maximum number of Faith Points equal to 5 + 1/3 their Hit Dice, rounded down.

Only divine spellcasters who worship a deity can provide Faith Points in this way. Divine energy offered by druids, rangers, or clerics who serve a cause rather than a deity provides no Faith Points.

Divine Dependence (Ex)

Rhai’Selog require divine sustenance each day, much as members of other races require food and water. They can normally meet this need by spending 1 Faith Point per day. In any environment inimical to divine energy, such as a plane in which divine magic is impeded, a Rhai’Selog may need to expend two or three times as many Faith Points to survive, much like needing to drink more water in a hot environment.

A Rhai’Selog can only go 1 day without sustaining faith, after which he begins to suffer the effects of starvation. He immediately takes 1d6 nonlethal damage and 1 point of fatigue. Each additional day that he goes without, he must make a Constitution check (DC 10, +1 for each previous check) or take 1d6 additional points of nonlethal damage. Nonlethal damage from divine starvation cannot be recovered until he receives divine sustenance—not even magic that restores hit points heals this damage—and his fatigue cannot be reduced below 1 point until this damage is fully healed.

Rhai'Selog eat and drink as normal, but they may spend 1 additional Faith Point to satisfy these physical needs for the day.
