Although any mundane altar may be used to venerate a deity, the deity can be invoked to grant divine power to the altar, blessing any who pray there. The successful completion of this ritual permanently transforms an altar into a holy altar.
Failure to complete this ritual incurs displeasure from the invoked deity, which may incur additional hardships beyond the normal consequences of failure.
By using unholy water, this ritual can instead create an unholy altar.
